Synopsis

The story takes place in the Living Room and dining room of a country Manor House.   The owner, Mrs Margaret Crompton-Smythe, and her hard-of-hearing sister Ethel, are waited on hand and foot by Margaret’s 36 year old son Clive. Margaret has a bell to summon help, and everyone has their set number of rings.  Confusion ensues.   Clive is bright but completely downtrodden by his mother, his aunt and his younger brother Ralph.  Ralph is gay, but no one in the household except Ralph is really wise to such things.
