Synopsis

Pie in the Sky is a comedy about what happens when the “nesting instinct” is applied to the end of one’s life.  It’s the story of two women, Dory (65), and her mother, Margaret (85), who live together in a mobile home in Abilene, Texas.  On this particular morning, Mama has awoken early with the over-whelming need to bake an apple pie.  When Dory is awoken by the noise, she joins her mother, and together they assemble the pie and chat.  The conversation starts out innocently enough, but it soon becomes clear that Mama is attempting to tie up loose ends and put Dory’s life in better order before she departs this world.

  1. Steve Davies

    L.A. Times Critic’s Choice ★★★★★
“[Seemingly] nothing much happens in Lawrence Thelen’s
deceptively simple new play. Then again, everything happens.
The show sneaks up on you with the emotional equivalent of a
    sucker punch.”
    LOS ANGELES TIMES
”Book Seats Today! What Are You Waiting For?”
“An achingly touching, endlessly HILARIOUS two character play,
this one will tickle your funny bone and touch your heart deeply
again and again! This little gem of a play, written beautifully by
Lawrence Thelen, is loaded with laughs and abundant with hearttouching
moments. This is a wonderful play, loaded with heart.”
    THE TOLUCAN TIMES
”Great Drama + Great Pie Is a Match Made in Heaven”
“I loved this play. The dialogue was real, raw and unburdened by
unnecessary flourish or revelation, and, because of this, it was
true. This wonderful and moving play left me quiet, thoughtful and
grateful to have seen it. Go and see this play.”
